Prepare the shapes you need for the Platform Pop-up Birthday Card

I must admit, it’s been a while since I’ve indulged in card-making. Life hasn’t always put me in the best mood.

However, with my sister-in-law’s birthday approaching, I decided it was time to get back on track and create something truly remarkable.

I had been eagerly waiting to use my platform die, and this was the perfect occasion for it!

Initially, I had grand plans for a summer-inspired design with delightful fishes, enchanting mermaids, and charming seashells. Alas, I lacked the necessary stamps, and financial constraints made it impossible to order them.

Undeterred, I swiftly switched to plan B. I decided to leverage my existing supplies and crafted a delightful Platform Pop-up Birthday Card with a picnic-inspired summer theme!

To begin, I carefully selected various stamps to create the figures I envisioned.

The beauty of this card is that you can employ any stamps you have on hand.

I usually start by stamping the shapes, allowing them ample time to dry before coloring them.

For coloring, I employed an array of vivid markers, infusing each shape with vibrant hues.

Once colored, I proceeded to skillfully die-cut the shapes.

While some of the stamped shapes didn’t make the final cut for this project, I carefully saved them for future endeavors.

Assembling and decorating the Platform for the card.

Now comes the exciting part: creating the message for the Platform Pop-up Birthday Card!

In order to achieve an exquisite effect, I opted for hot foil. Using the foil, I stamped the word “Happy” on it and, with my quill pen, carefully pressed along the lines. Then cut the word using the matching die.

Then I took the die-cut bases required for the pop-up platform and stamped one of them with the word Birthday. The next step involves assembling the platform according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Fold the score lines on the main platform and the T-shaped pieces (you’ll need three of them) and apply double-sided tape to the designated areas for adhesion.

Gently insert the T-shaped piece into the slot, pulling it until it aligns perfectly with the base, and secure it by gluing it at the last crease, forming a neat 90-degree angle when folded.

Next, glue the small fold by carefully creasing the paper along the other shoreline, ensuring it adheres underneath the scalloped line.

This completes half of the platform. Repeat the process to craft the other half of the base.

Since this card depicts a picturesque picnic scene, I utilized the grass die included in the set to embellish the T-shaped pieces.

To achieve the desired effect, I created four rows of grass. Additionally, I prepared an extra T shape to be sandwiched between the two platform pieces, meticulously adorning it with two grass die cuts and removing any excess paper.

Finally, I assembled the remaining pieces of the base, bringing everything together and gluing the stamped shapes.

The only alteration I would consider is placing the little yellow bird in the front row and positioning the mouse holding the gift in the back. It’s a minor detail, not essential to change, but one I would’ve considered had I started from scratch.

For the finishing touches I added some flowers around the card. It really gave some need color.

Create a custom envelope for the Platform Pop-up Birthday Card.

Now, onto the last part of this project—a custom envelope.

Typically, I don’t fashion envelopes for my cards, opting instead to attach them directly to the gift. However, given that this card boasts a pop-up feature, an envelope becomes a necessity.

To craft the envelope, select a patterned paper long enough to fold around the card comfortably.

The paper I’m using is aproximetelly 14cm (5.5 inches) high and 30.5cm (12 inches) wide.

Keep in mind the folding sections at the top and bottom. Leave around 1.5 centimeters (0.6 inches) for gluing the bottom of the card and approximately 3 centimeters (1.19 inches) at the top for the envelope fold.

Allow some wiggle room to avoid a tight fit, leaving space on either side of the card.

Next, score the lines where you intend the envelope to fold, trim any excess small pieces from the long side sections, and glue the middle and bottom of the envelope.

The final envelope is aproximatelly 10 cm (3.93 inches) high and 14 cm (5.5 inches) wide.

For an extra polished finish, round the corners of the envelope lid.

Lastly, I stamped a heartfelt message on the front of the card, bringing it to life, and glued a festive banner on the top left corner.

With that, your captivating Platform Pop-up Birthday Card is complete, ready to dazzle and delight the lucky recipient!

Supplies I used to make the platform pop-up birthday card.

 When it comes to this card, the beauty lies in using the stamps and colors you already have in your collection. For my own cards, I utilized a variety of Lawn Fawn stamps and dies. Of course, you’ll need the Platform Pop-up die for the base.

To bring the adorable animals on the card to life, I dove into my stamp sets, making use of the birthday before ‘n afters, elephant parade, tea-rrific day add-on, and merry mice sets. Each set came with the corresponding dies, which made the process even more enjoyable.

When it came to the sentiments, I turned to the Offset Sayings: everyday set for the envelope and the Happy happy happy stamp set for the platform. To add a touch of flair, I incorporated the Fishtail Banner Borders.

For the envelope, I used the green-orange paper from the Craft Consortium Paper Pad Grunge Light Tones. As for the platform, I opted for Spellbinders FERN COLOR ESSENTIALS CARDSTOCK.

To add a touch of shimmer to the banner, I utilized some leftover glitter papers. And for the finishing touch, I used the We R Starter Kit Foil Quill Freestyle Pens to beautifully foil the word “Happy.”

To add vibrant colors to the shapes, I relied on Tombow’s Dual Brush pens. Here’s a breakdown of the codes I used for each element:
