Creating the cover page for the May floral bullet journal spread.

It’s been some time since my last post. It’s been a challenging month, marked by the heartbreaking news of our dog’s sudden passing due to illness.

I must confess, I’m still not in the right frame of mind to create, but I’ve decided to give it a shot.

Hoping for a brighter month ahead, I opted for a cheerful spring theme. I settled on a floral design with cascading tabs.

Starting with the cover page, the most challenging aspect of this spread was selecting the color palette.

While playing it safe with similar colors like purple-pink is an option, I aimed for a vibrant spread, requiring contrasting yet complementary shades.

I began by lettering “May” prominently in the center of the page, opting for a hue between blue and green.

For those with less confident handwriting, printing a script and transferring it to your journal, as demonstrated in my March bullet journal, can be helpful.

Next, I adorned the page with flowers. Initially considering floral letters, I ultimately chose to embellish the corners instead.

One of the advantages of this spread is that you don’t need advanced drawing skills. With minimal effort, you can create a myriad of decent-looking flowers.

I started with an orange flower featuring tear-like petals, accentuated by brown dots at the center.

Roses were a must for my spread, albeit a bit trickier to master. Beginning with a twisted ‘d’ shape for the center, I added curved lines around it to emulate petals.

Experimentation is key here—you can blend ink with water, use different colors for petals, or even add a second layer of lines for a dual-tone effect. I opted for pink and burgundy hues for the roses.

Additionally, I incorporated vibrant red carnations for a pop of color, which are quite simple to create. Just connect a bunch of straight lines together and add a stem.

To balance the palette, I scattered some simple blue and purple flowers around and added vines and leaves to fill any gaps.

Moving on to the inserts, I started with a “To Do” page adjacent to the cover.

Using the same color scheme as the cover, I included checkboxes to mark completed tasks.

The flowers drawn on the cover page were intentionally mirrored here for cohesive decor. An orange tab was added for easy navigation.

Next, I created an expenses tab, keeping it minimal due to the text-heavy nature of this spread.

I used a light yellow color and added a few flowers to the corners. I kept it simple, but you can add more flowers for a pop of color.

For mood tracking, I decided to forgo it this month, but you can add a tracker with smiley faces, like the one I used in my October Bullet Journal. An other option is to sketch flowers and color them based on your mood.

This month I utilized habit trackers for activities and habits like walking and hydrating, using the green-blue color from the letters. For the tab, I used a light green shade.

Finally, I crafted the calendar, using the same marker I used for the letters to the tab and omitting day labels since they’re easily discernible.

I sprinkled a few flowers at the beginning and end of the month, completing the May spread!

To make the May Floral Bullet Journal spread you will need different colors of markers.   

For this calendar I used the following Tombow markers: 772 Dusty Rose, 757 Port Red, 847 Crimson, 249 Hunter Green, 912 Pale Cherry, 947 Burned Sienna, 020 Peach, 192 Asparagus, 620 Lilac, 407 Tiki Teal, 533 Peacock Blue, 993 Chrome Orange, 090 Lemon Cream, 055 Process Yellow. 

Also I used Stabilo’s 88/51 Turquoise. To write the dates, I used the SAKURA Pigma Micron 01 Fineliner Pen .
