Fallen leaves, pumpkins, and cozy vibes – October has it all! Get organized with the Pumpkin-themed October Bullet Journal Spread.
Crafting the Perfect Cover Page for Your Pumpkin-themed October Bullet Journal Spread
I’m thrilled to share this bullet journal with you! While pumpkins in October might not be the most original idea, I’ve been wanting to create this spread for a while.
The best part is that the design is simple; even if you don’t have strong artistic skills, you can definitely make it.
I prefer to keep my spreads as straightforward as possible since I can’t spend too much time on a single spread, and I know many of you are in the same boat.
For this journal, I’ve created a spread with cascading tabs, also known as waterfall tabs bullet journal.
I used the left page of my journal for the cover page.
Normally, I’d use the right page, but I wanted ample space for drawing and to showcase the tabs, which are part of the spread’s decor.
To draw the pumpkin, start by creating an oval-like shape in the middle of the page.
You can make it as big or small as you like, but aim for it to be slightly wider at the bottom than at the top to achieve that classic pumpkin shape.
Begin adding oval shapes on the sides. As you progress, these oval shapes will turn into curved lines connecting the top to the bottom. Once you’ve completed the lines, add a stem in the middle.
Don’t worry about making it perfect; real pumpkins have flaws.
I used colored pencils to paint my design, aiming for a subtle, calm result with earthy tones.
You can use your favorite medium, such as watercolor, markers, or inks, and adjust the process to your personal style.
I started by coloring the pumpkin yellow, gradually adding color following the fruit’s curves. Then I added orange, keeping some patches mostly yellow to simulate where the light hits.
You can incorporate red, brown, green, or pink details based on your desired final look.
Don’t hesitate to use multiple colors and blend them together; that’s what adds depth and realism to the design.
Beneath the pumpkin, I added a few autumn leaves to fill the empty space and infuse some fall vibes into the spread.
To complete the spread, write the name of the month.
Since I wanted something contrasting with the orange but complementary to the colors I used, I opted for a mint green marker for the month’s name.
Create fun waterfall tabs for the October Bullet Journal Spred’s inserts.
Next, I created the “To-Do” page. I usually start with the calendar, but in this type of spread, the last tab has more room, so I saved it for later.
I kept the title script simple and didn’t add a colored tab for this insert, giving me more space for writing. You can choose what works best for you.
Lastly, I decorated the bottom of the page with two pumpkins.
Since there are various types of pumpkins with different shapes, you can experiment with different designs and colors. For this page, I drew a green and an orange pumpkin.
Moving on to the “Expenses” tab, I retained the three columns, as that design suits me best, even though it’s a tighter fit.
Given the limited space, I left the first two pages empty and drew a pumpkin only at the end.
If you’d like, you can add some small fall leaves or mark every second line with a marker to add a pop of color.
I painted the tab yellow with inks to maintain warm, fall shades for all the tabs. Once again, I used green markers for the title and the cells.
Creating this month’s Mood tracker and Calendar.
The next section of this month’s journal includes various trackers.
Since I’m starting yoga and fencing lessons in October to stay active, I wanted to mark when I attend those sessions, along with tracking my daily walks.
My initial plan was to stamp four tiny calendars on the page: three for each activity and the fourth as a mood tracker (which I’ll explain shortly).
The idea is to mark the day when you engage in any exercise.
However, my inexpensive stamp from Shein kept smudging the numbers, so I switched to Plan B and wrote the days by hand.
As for the mood tracker, I initially considered not including one due to a lack of motivation.
Eventually, I decided on a simple approach: I used three colors, one for “okay,” one for “so-so,” and one for “miserable,” and drew three little faces to represent the moods.
The plan is to mark each day with a colored circle to denote my corresponding mood.
If you’d like to create a mood tracker but don’t want to buy different markers, you can use the same technique, employing regular pens or drawing three different shapes for each mood (e.g., square, circle, triangle).
I completed the page by adding a water tracker.
Write the day’s number and leave enough room next to it. For each glass of water you consume, draw a square or mark an ‘X.’
For this insert, I chose an orange tab, with each tab getting progressively darker, like autumn leaves.
Finally, for this month’s tracker, there’s the calendar.
Since October spans six weeks, the design is a bit smaller than usual. If you don’t want to sacrifice space, you can add the first day of October to your September spread – a handy trick I’ve used many times.
Please note that the design splits Thursday in half. Personally, it doesn’t bother me much; I just made that column slightly wider than the rest to leave enough room for writing.
However, if it’s a deal-breaker for you, you can make some modifications.
You can remove the side tab to gain more room for your calendar cells or rotate the entire calendar for a horizontal design.
For this insert, I chose a rich chocolate brown and added small yellow circles on the dates for an extra touch of color.
At first, I thought this was sufficient, but it seemed a bit empty. My solution? Add more pumpkins – not just one, but a bunch of them.
And there you have it – your Pumpkin-Themed October Bullet Journal Spread is now complete. Happy fall, everyone!”
Supplies you will need to make the Pumpkin-Themed October Bullet Journal Spread.
To color the pumpkins I chose to use colored pencils. I used Staedtler’s colored pencils, that are also watercolor pencils. Of course you can use any type of color you feel comfortable with.
For the tittle I used the Tombow marker 192-Asparagus. I also used the markers 090-Lemon Cream, 055-Process Yellow, 020-Peach for the mood tracker and small details around the calendar.
To draw the lines and the cells of the journal I used Stabilo’s green marker No 88/12.
To color the tabs I used Tim Holtz Distress Ink Pads Mustard Seed, Wild Honey and Vintage Photo.
Of course for the outlines and the dates you need a black pen. I used Sakura Pigma Micron No 03.
Lastly, as I said I wanted to use a montly stamp, but unfortunately the one I ordered was very poor quality. Similar stamps as mine are the these calendar wooden stamps set, althought I haven’t bought one (yet), but they have very good reviews.
Thank you so much for reading! I would really like to know what you thought of this spread. And don’t forget to check out my Umbrella Themed Bullet Journal Spread.
